Mastering the Art of Shameless Self-Promotion: Networking
1. Attend events where your target market is.
An easier and faster way to gain more prospects and strategic alliances is to participate in or attend expos, trade shows, fairs, seminars, festivals, exhibitions, swap meets, conventions and conferences related to your business. The people attending these are already interested in what your have to offer.
2. Don't go to events to sell to someone, go to discover businesses that you can create strategic alliances or joint ventures with.
Selling your products and services at networking events is a turn off. You're there to introduce yourself—your brief bio and qualifications. You're there to get to know other people for possible business alliances or joint ventures.
3. Be yourself.
Be yourself, everyone else is taken! Be yourself whether you're networking online or in the real world. Putting on an act can be tiring and will backfire sooner or later. Share interesting info about yourself—who you are, what you do and what your aspirations in life are.
